by Tarn Wright & Sudden Valley Press
Join Sudden Valley Press and friends to celebrate the launch of Book of Jubilations, the debut collection from Ōtautahi poet Tarn Wright, featuring readings from Erik Kennedy, Ray Shipley and more. Books will be available for sale on the night.
About the book:
Book of Jubilations is a prayer book for the wildernesses, brothels, classrooms, prison cells, halfway houses, and queer chapels of the mind — and for this moment in our fierce, brilliant, dying world that is also busy being born. Join various plant guides to dance at raucous parties in the badlands of Ōtautahi, bask in Te Whanganui-a-Tara forest euphoria, start a fire with Dracophyllum leaves in the highest peaks of the Southern Alps, eat tuku nuts in Uganda and dates in Palestine, and recover in the sun-drunk long grass of Ōhinehou.
About the author:
Tarn Wright has published poetry, short fiction and non-fiction in Landfall, Turbine, Bonsai, Takahē, Catalyst, The Butterfly Diaries, Flash Frontier, Starling, Lines in Charcoal, The Six Pack, and the National Library Blog. In 2022, they completed a Master’s in Creative Writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters, winning the prize for Best Fiction Manuscript. They have twice won the Ōtautahi Poetry Slam and placed third in the Aotearoa National Poetry Slam. During Covid, Tarn wrote over 100 children's stories for radio education programmes during the prolonged closure of Ugandan schools. Book of Jubilations is their first poetry collection.Event Details
